In Part 5 of our Edit No.3 we take a look at a 90s classic, the slip dress! I’ve been a long time admirer, although always doubted that I could wear one… too much skin, too body skimming, too sexy!
But I’ve been wrong all these years. And there was no slip better to prove this point than that of nineties globally green proprietor, John Patrick, and his line organic. Shown here on Mirabelle, the type of arrestingly tough woman perfect for wearing the slip dress, in three variations for fall.
Traditionally cut on the bias with spaghetti straps, the slip dress has transformed into a piece worth buying and keeping around all year long. It could be easy to fall on our Drew Barrymore-loving memories and put a white tee under a black slip — but to sophisticate the look with a black on black take, by wearing a turtleneck instead, feels both fresh and smart. No one is saying not to wear your favorite flannel by the way…
It wouldn’t be a real slip renaissance without wearing one for evening. It’s one of those styles that can actually stand alone without much hoopla in addition (albeit a warm coat to throw over your shoulders!). It’s ultra feminine without showing up in ruffles…
One of the best parts about about the slip, is that it can actually function as a skirt! Seen here worn with a cropped sweater over, a tailored and pleated vest, and a pair of heels that both disappear and pop. For anyone scared of feeling like they might be too revealed, this is the look for you!
Dare to bare in a slip dress? You know we’re all dying to live out our Kate Moss and Johnny Depp movie premier fantasies… (is that just me?!?) Well, I can dream…
Look 1: Sweater, slip dress and turtleneck, JPO; Bag, Les Petits Jours; Shoes, Laurence Dacade; Hat, Eugenia Kim; Flannel Shirt, vintage / Look 2: Coat and slip dress, John Patrick Organic; Shoes, Gianvito Rossi; Bag, Tyler Alexandra; Necklace, Astley Clark / Look 3: Vest, Sweater, Slip Dress, all John Patrick Organic; Shoes, Paul Andrew; Scarf, White + Warren .
Très jolie, mais suis-je la seule à appeler ça une nuisette ?
J’aime beaucoup le coté décalé de cette pièce qui est à l’origine plutôt un sous-vêtement ou un vêtement de nuit.

Slip dress is a bit too sexy for me. It’s a bit too sexy to wear it solely. Maybe go for a romantic date?
Yet, the asian culture is a bit conservative to accept it.

I have always loved the slip dress i alwayes found it very sexy and feminine…my mother had that always under her dress ……….so for me wearing it as a dress seems not appropriate !! although we have seen it in fashion shows already in Marc Jacobs collection 4-3 y ago..only now we see it in the streets…
in your story the girls are so covered that you don’t really see the slip dress ….and that can be an easy way to wear it…

All great ideas on how to wear a slip dress! That green vest (coat?) in the header image and in the last look is absolutely gorgeous!

I, too, am a huge fan of the slip dress. I have never had a long one, though (just “minis”). These are gorgeous photos, and I especially love the photo with the backdrop of the water and city skyline. It really makes you feel like you are there on an early morning sunrise or crisp afternoon in late fall.
Gorgeous!

Never really liked slip dresses. I am not sure why though, they look good on other people but would be the last thing I would wear (or almost, I keep forgetting balaclavas :-) Interesting styling you did here, makes it rather appealing!
Bonsoir,
Article très intéressant.
On remarque bien qu’une slip dress peut se porter de la plus élégante des manières. Le style semble être intimement lié à L’Attidude pour donner une allure.
beautiful dress! and it comes in about 10 colors! i want every one.
Love this. I have an obsession with vintage high to low slips and have at least 30??? I wear them year round. Tucked into shorts, under linen blazers and under giant mens T’s for extra coverage…. the 90’s were good! #classof87 lol.
Avec un col roulé et un gros gilet en laine, je suis adepte l’hiver!
Les deux dernieres photos sont a tomber ! Le mouvement, du au drape de ce manteau est sublime.
Love this story and I love these edits! Very cool and inspiring!
Another great thing about Organic is that the clothes are made from organic cotton and botanical dyes : ) we need to think about what goes into our bodies, especially from the clothes we wear! http://www.organicbyjohnpatrick.com/pages/about

i have always loved a slip dress. immediately the image of lovely 90s kate moss pops up in my mind…
but to me it is also the perfect basic to go with eeeeverything. sexy minimalism as well as layered casual, like this editorial shows perfectly.
and we all know how hard it is to find that one dress that is so simple and versatile at the same time! slip dress… little black dress… or white summer dress…(http://madeau.com/2015/04/12/one-dress/)
thank you,
madelaine
The Paul Andrew shoes are insane!!!!!!!
How I love the slip dress, it’s the key for incredible layering <3
