This weekend is the last one before back to school. New York fashion week is starting next week (Arrrrgh ! So early !) and you can already feel the electricity…
Ce week-end, c’est le dernier week-end avant la vraie rentrée. La fashion week New Yorkaise commence jeudi prochain (Gaaasp ! Trop tôt !) et on sent la fébrilité monter…
So this weekend, this looong Labor Day weekend (here, Monday is a holiday) is one of the most delicious and most nostalgic of the year. What we love to do is to stay in the city, hop on our bikes and visit neighborhoods we don’t know, new restaurants, go up to Central Park, cross the bridges and go thrift shopping in Brooklyn, end up totally drunk at the Wythe Hotel, looking out at the skyline…
On a bike, the city is yours.

PS : In the picture, Nista has the perfect biking outfit : A hat (and don’t forget to wear sunblock) a messenger bag – Ok, kind of, a Proenza Schouler PS1 – shorts, and flats.
Du coup ce week-end, ce long week-end du Labor Day (ici, lundi est ferié) est le plus délicieux et nostalgique de toute l’année. Ce qu’on adore faire, c’est rester en ville, prendre nos vélos et nous balader pour découvrir des quartiers qu’on ne connaît pas, aller découvrir de nouveaux restos, monter jusqu’à Central Park, traverser les ponts pour aller chiner à Brooklyn, finir complètement bourrés au Whyte Hotel en regardant le skyline New Yorkais…
En vélo, tout d’un coup, New York nous appartient.
Passez un super week-end !!!
PS : Sur la photo, le look de Nista est très bien pour biker : une casquette (et ne pas oublier l’écran total non plus) un sac à bandoulière – Ouais bon ok, celui-ci est un Proenza PS1 mais bon – une paire de shorts et des chaussures plates.

Quelle chance de pouvoir (re)decouvrir New-York a velo! J’adorerais faire de meme a Londres mais les routes sont pas encore tout a fait favorables aux pietons… mais parfois je m’y risque, et c’est vraiment genial! Parcourir une ville a velo offre un sentiment de liberte incroyable.

A hat on a bike seems dangerous. What if it flies of, you try to catch it, move your bike around not thinking and then get hit or fall :) I never wear hats on a bike!

ohh!! I love my wandering around NYC! without rush and purpose, just hanging out .. and I try to take paths I never take..
Here is the short video we took on one of our trip through Queensborough bridge to Met museum to see Prada & Schiaparelli exhibition, then Central Park and Time Square. Then we stopped for lunch and it was just a perfect day!

I love staying in the city when it clears out for a holiday weekend. One thing though, please wear a bike helmet. My doctor friend works in the emergency room at Bellevue and so many of the cases that come in (and never leave, if you catch my drift) are cyclist accidents. He’s 27 and has seen so many fatalities and brain injuries from people not wearing helmets that he swears he’d never ride a bike in NYC. Please be smart, safe and cool! Have fun.

En te lisant, une seule envie: sauter sur mon vélo et profiter de ce dernier week-end de l’ été…sauf que…Mexico City, meme le samedi-dimanche, sur un deux-roues motorisé ou non, franchement, je ne m’y risquerai pas!!!! A moins que le permis de conduire devienne obligatoire et que les locaux apprennent a rouler! Mais a defaut de faire une rando en vélo, peut etre vais-je prendre l’ avion direction NYC…le reve! Dont’t forget to wear a helmet when you’re riding a bike! In Australia it’s the law to wear a helmet when you’re riding a bike in the city. Is it the same in USA? I bring this up because I got hit by a car that didn’t stop at a ‘Stop’ sign and my helmet saved my life … didn’t stop the gravel rash though! Hope you thoroughly enjoy NYFW !!

Biking around the city, indeed a lovely way to spend the last summer weekend..:) To me all the ‘helmet’ comments above stand out, here in Holland no one (except maybe toddlers) wears a helmet, its our everyday means of transport so everyone has been cycling around from the age of four and eventually knows what they are doing. I know New York has more traffic than the average Dutch city, so there helmets might be a good idea, but here in Holland it just seems strange.
