Our hotel, the Viceroy in Ubud, was not only so beautiful and so good (yes I’m talking about the food), but each room was equipped with one of these little open air gazebos.
It’s a Balinese concept called a bale. They have them in houses and villages in a lot of different sizes and qualities.
This is where folks get together to hang out. The Balinese, unlike us, don’t really socialize during meals – and they don’t really have “cafes” for sitting and talking.
But bales symbolize just how much they love to get together and chat.
Our version is a hotelified version, of course, but it was crazy how much time I spent reading in there, reliving every moment with Scott and watching the monkeys leap from branch to branch.

OOOh moi j’étais au Samaya à Ubud, j’avais carrémment une piscine dans la petite villa en plus du Bale…et la rivière qui coulait au pied de la terrasse, tellement reposant !
As tu remarqué que les cendriers balinais pèsent une tonne ?

Les photos sont sublimes. L’hotel est magnifique et on ressent la sérénité de l’endroit. Je vais le rajouter aux “place to go” avant ma retraite:)

Je suis allée à Bali deux fois, une fois pour le mariage d’un ami avec sa copine qui est née là-bas , une autre fois, pour un mois de Road Trip!
Le mariage reste l’un des plus beaux moments de ma vie!
C’était magique de voir tous les rituels pour les mariés!
Au moment de la distribution de l’eau bénite trempée dans les fleurs, j’étais aux anges!!! :-)
J’ai aussi bien aimé coller des grains de riz sur mon front, selon la tradition, pour jouir d’une vie heureuse et prospère! :-)

Honestly, I want to die Garance, this is SOOOOO gorgeous! It really does look like paradise and I live in a tropical climate complete with daily visits from monkeys! It looks soo peaceful and magical!

Oh that looks wonderfull… When I have a bit more time on my hands, I’m gonna take this idea and make a cozy reading nook at my home. It’ll look very different, but the idea of having a special place to relax – other than my couch – would be the most important thing. Thanks Garance!
