I love this photo because it is a good representation of Bali, the mix of the traditional and the modern that you cross on every street corner, and the way that foreigners assimilate themselves into the landscape.
The other things I love are the style details in the photo, the super simple cotton dress, the summer jewelry, like look at the bracelet worn on the upper arm (another one!) and the anklet as well…
The first thing I wanted to do when I got to Bali was to get myself an anklet, something I never would wear in New York or Paris (even though I’ve always loved them). But on vacation, it works perfectly.
C’est la vie!

Des bijoux de mains et de cheville! l’été, c’est beaucoup plus simple à assumer, à porter l’air de rien en se fondant dans la plage!

My havaianas, black with the slim “top ribbons”…. well, you know what I mean. I love them so much and wear them a lot, although I know, that many say it is not appropriate to wear plastic sandals outside the beach zone. But since I saw your grate picture of Yasmin Sewell wearing them, I’m relieved, I’m in super company :-) xxx

Les pieds nus et des t shirts en guise de robe.
Je ne porte presque pas de chaussures pendant mes vacances sur ma petite ile adoree. Que ce soit pour aller faire du yoga au lever du soleil a la plage, pour acheter du pain chaud fait a la main ou en rentrant d’un beach party a 3h du mat.
Et je me promene souvent en t shirt sans manches super large au dessus de mon maillot en guise de vetement, chose que je ne ferais certainement pas en ville, chez moi.
No shoes and tshirts over my bathing suits only.
I seldom wear shoes during my vacation on my favorite island. Whether it’s to run to catch the sunrise in downward facing dog on the beach, to buy homemade pipping hot bread from my italian neighbors or to stumble back slightly tipsy from a beach party at 3am.
I also pretend not to own regular clothing and wear extra large tissue ts over my bathing suits and nothing more, which i would never wear in Washington, DC. :-)

Effectivement, une photo très parlante, tout en contrastes.
Les bijoux de cheville, je n’en ai pas encore… non pas de fait que je n’assume pas porter ce genre d’accessoire. D’ailleurs, j’adore en voir sur mes voisins, l’été. Mais je cherche juste le mien, celui qui m’ira parfaitement.

Funny, I have an anklet just like that. In summer I love to wear shell jewellery and more colorful bracelets & lots of turquoise/coral. It just seems to go so well with white but summer is never long enough for me to wear all my stuff.

Beautiful photo and love her style. There’s one thing I don;t actually wear during summer but only do during summer. I don’t wear shoes, socks or whatever around the house. In my garden and home I constantly walk around bare feet. So comfortable! Another thing I Do only wear during summer are my Birkies. When they come out of my closet the summer is definitely there! xx

Now this is an intriguing photo especially in the way it mediates the terms of the ‘two way assimilation’ which is at the heart of all interesting travels…I like the scattered details of orientalism which adorn her body – bare feet/anklet and upper arm bracelet which speak of the timelessness of an escapist vacation in an exoticised space (created together with the temple shimmering like a mirage in the background) while the heavy watch/electronic gizmos anchor the subject’s body in the inescapable time of office deadlines. It’s the unintended creation of this clash of temporalities in the photo rather than any outright assimilation which I see and like.
In addition, the watch, the helmet, the tan line just above the strap and the tattoo just peaking out. Nicely put together.
this is a really great photo – it makes me want to go on a permanent vacation, either that or freelance from a tropical locale all year long.

Si j’aurai été à Bali par exemple j’aurai porté des robes comme sur la photo. J’aurai peut-être mit de côté mes soutiene-gorges Victoria’s Secret et j’aurai tout simplement laissé mes seins libre sans soutien ou bien j’aurai porté le bikini à outrance. Je vis depuis toujours à Montréal et je ne peux pas ne pas mettre de soutien-gorge parce que j’ai l’impression que la planète entière va le savoir. Je fais que du 34C (taille assez standard qui est toujours en rupture de stock lorsque je désire un beau modèle lol), donc je peux me le permettre quand même. Mes seins ne sont pas assez imposant juste parfait. :) x

Quand j’étais à Bali, il y a 15 ans, il n’y avait pas d’outils informatiques. Tt le monde avait un carnet pour noter et croquer les paysages et surtout les guides de voyages. Cela change t il la manière de voyager? et surtout de rencontrer les autres?

Curly hair! I always try to keep my locks straight or wavy, smooth, weel behaved, perefct. But in Summer I just go crazy and let it be.. all frizzy and independent. You won’t see too many picturesof me in the Summer, though… :)
PS: I love your pics of Bali, every single one of them (well, that one of the mega flat tummy not so much. It made me a little bit depressed). Thanks for sharing, Is a nice way of travelling from the office.

Je suis Tout à Fait d’accord avec toi!!! J’adore le bracelet de cheville que j’enfile dès que je mets un pied à Goa, en revanche ça ne passe pas du tout à l’île de Ré… ;))) Tu passes direct de la case cool à cagole; tout est une question d’environnement…!

ce que je note aussi sur cette photo, c’est le déplacement du rasage de cheveux. avant c’était sur le côté, devenu trop mainstream. désormais on rase derrière comme les moines, et en plus ça rafraîchit la nuque en vacances, great !
La plage, c’est un peu comme Vegas, tu peux craquer et personne n’est obligé de savoir, donc oui au bracelet de cheville, au chignon mouillé et autres chapeaux de paille !

En été, je porte tout ce qui me plaît sans restriction aucune.
Mais franchement qu’est-ce qu’on est influençable en vacances, non ?
Durant mon voyage au Maroc, il a fallu que je me fasse tatouer au henné noir (celui qu’est fait avec du plomb = danger = allergie) alors que je n’aime pas ça les tatouages intempestifs et éphémères.
Ah ! mais y’a que les c… qui ne changent pas d’avis, surtout le temps d’un été.
On ne s’ennuie pas ! ;)

La photo est belle mais j’ai trouve dommage de tomber en face du Pura Taman Saraswati et a proximite des demeures royales sur un Starbucks installe en plein coeur de cet espace pittoresque d’Ubud !! Quelle deception!!
