Altuzarra Pre-Fall 2015
9 years ago by
It’s pre-fall!! Okay, so maybe it’s actually winter in New York (snowing today!) but it’s now that the pre-fall collections debut.
Though it’s the collection that quietly drops in the interlude between fashion weeks, pre-fall is super important. The transitional pieces are money makers for designers, as they’re in stores for longer (or so my secret sources tell me..). And this means there’s a big difference in how the collection is released.
It’s always more intimate… rather than the drama of a runway show, it’s usually a quiet presentation to a small crowd. It’s so special because you feel like you really get to know the collection.
The other day, we went to the Altuzarra pre-fall preview, which was super cool… the designer, Joseph Altuzarra personally introduced each look. His collection was military-inspired and he pointed out every unique detail. What I loved most was that you could hear from him the thought — and sweat and tears — that had gone into the making of each piece. Here are some photos from the presentation…
Do you like the big runway shows or would you prefer something more personal, like an intimate presentation?
Love the pictures..love his work..classic and elegant..love the boots..

Love this collection! The leopard print is perfect.
Intimate for me, pls ;
Hello,

Wow! so beautiful!

Any collection that has a leo print pair of boots has my sign of approval :)
If I had to choose I would go for the intimate presentation. I think listening the artists explaning their work has to be fascinating . I work with musicians and writers and I love getting to know how they come up with their works of art. I guess this is more or less the same.

omg,i love this clothes
Once again perfect photos that bring us into the experience in an intimate way, as if we were there too. Because I am so fascinated by the designers as artists, as business people I would much prefer a personal experience where I could hear their thoughts and ideas and motivations. I think it allows you also to appreciate the beauty of the clothes, closer looks at details, fabrics, drape and all the incredible loveliness of good design. This is why I like to go shopping in brick and mortars because as you mentioned in yesterday’s post, it is about wanting an experience.

I love to see here that the proximity between the designer, clothes and the people he’s talking to. It’s a back to basics, isn’t a way for the designer to express the story of the collection and the process of each outfit? I feel like it’s only about clothes here and the love, passion and hard work dedicated : the essence of their work.
However, Isabel Marant mentioned in one of the interviews with Cafe Mode that it’s Anna Wintour, who put pressure – pr strongly recommended may I say – to do pre-collections. Is it true? What for? Coz Marant complained even though it’s comes from a good idea, designers don’t have time to really think about design : everything has to be very fast with few room for creativity. What do you think? Are pre-collections only a good fit for retailers, unrealistic and not relevant (weather-wise : seeing spring outfils in the racks when in January there’s still snow storms and you’re unable to find gloves), and on the another hand harm creativity?
Les 1ere et 3eme photos sont mes preferees, ainsi que les boots leopard.
Quant a la presentation de la collection, je prefere de loin l’intimiste.
wow everything is amazing

I am in love wit his designs. He always comes up with very wearable, versatile pieces that are both in fashion and totally timeless. I’m glad that a military trend is still going strong- it’s got to be one of my favourites!

I love Altuzarra’s designs and silhouettes. I think the intimate pre-fall shows are always nicer – they’re still glamorous in nature, but in a more subtle way than the regular shows. But the idea that the designer can spend more time telling the story both through the clothes as well as well later interactions with the audience, is really appealing to me.
Gorgeous collection. the split is super sexy :)

Thank you, Avan, for reading :)
To have the opportunity to hear from the creator/designer speak about the piece, his intention/what he wanted to accomplish, why he made certain choices, how he got inspired, and his process of creation is the ultimate for me. I wished we had more access to this kind of content. Crazy experiential events are fun and create a lot of excitement for a brand, but the best for me is being able to get if only a bit into the mind of really cool/creative people; to be able to understand how they see the world.
J’adore, la collection est dingue !

I think personal is the way to go, love the idea of connecting with the design, collection and the pieces themselves. What a wonderful way to view this collection.
