This or That: American or Française?

Years before I ever realized that I would actually end up working for her, Garance was my introduction to a certain kind of fashion.

At the time, she wrote a lot about Parisian style and New York style. As a college student from New Jersey, I possessed neither, but was infatuated by both.

Sarah’s Miami Home

Sarah Harrelson is the Founder and Editor in Chief of CULTURED, one of our favorite art and design magazines. And you can tell, just from looking around her space, how important design is to her and what a special eye she has. Her elevated taste and knack for uncovering talent have established her as an icon in the Miami art scene. Her home serves as both a functional space for her family (her husband, interior designer, Austin Harrelson, and their three teenagers) and an elegant, art-filled space for entertaining–a delicate balance to achieve. The small details, found objects and brushed gold accents, show the mark of a truly knowledgeable collector. Below, Sarah invites us inside and shares with us a bit about her style, design aesthetic, and career path.

GRLSWIRL

I was never one of those kids who yearned to skateboard. Never saw my brother do it and think, “hey, that looks fun!” Nope. I was the kid who never even learned to ride a bike properly, who prefered coloring indoors to any kind of outdoor activity that required sneakers and/ or sweating.

In college, I’d watch out the library windows as boys would skateboard on by. They’d carry them into class, looking smug and unbothered. I was not remotely interested. In fact, the entire sport and its hyper-masculine culture was wholly disinteresting to me.

Until I Instagram-scrolled upon GRLSWIRL.
