Flawless
9 years ago by
At the core of any beauty routine is skincare. It’s really the most important thing.
I’ve become a bit of a skin care addict over the last few years, really trying to figure out the things my skin needs to stay healthy, clear and bright. I’m always really impressed by models who have amazing skin. How do they keep it together, especially during fashion week, when they are wearing pounds of makeup, staying out and sometimes running on empty? When we bumped into model Alana Zimmer on the street in Paris, I knew I had to ask her about her routine, because her skin is #flawless. Here’s what she told me…
You have seriously good skin, what is your daily skin care routine like?
Thanks very much. I must say, I do take care of it. I wish I was one of those lucky people that didn’t have to but unfortunately I’m not. In the morning, I wash with Cetaphil cleanser and then use witch hazel as a toner. For moisturizer I always use Jojoba oil or a moisturizer from Ling Skincare. Then once a week I usually do a scrub and a mask. Sometimes I make the masks myself with avocado or honey or something. But if I’m travelling I love the SKII masks.
How do you take care of your skin between shows and photoshoots?
I’m always sure to take off all of my make up as soon as I’m done with a job. It dries out my skin so much. I use the famous french Bioderma Crealine to take off foundation. I also love the Serge Lutens wipes, especially for the eyes. They’re super gentle and somehow magically remove everything in one go.
What do you do at the end of fashion month? A special facial? How do you rehab your skin?
Usually a sunny vacation if I can! Otherwise I get a facial at Ling Skincare in Union Square (I just went the other day).
What is one of the most valuable skin care tips you’ve learned backstage?
More than anything probably the precision of make up. When I was in high school I would just smudge on whatever I could as fast as possible before school. Now I watch people take two hours to do a precise lip and a base. But it’s totally worth it. I think that’s how models get so picky about their make up. You get to see some of the best looks painted on yourself and unfortunately sometimes some of the worst!
Do you wear make up when you aren’t working?
I do, but not much. Which is probably why I take such good care of my skin. I’d rather not wear foundation if I don’t have to. Usually a bit of concealer, brow filler and mascara.
What are your essential products for skin care and makeup?
Jojoba oil is my absolute favourite skin care product. For make up I love Laura Mercier’s concealer and Lancome’s mascara and eyeliner.
What is one product you keep with you every day?
Paw Paw ointment for my lips.

Yes, cleaning and fostering (is that the right word?) is most important and although it takes time, it is fine as this time is an investment in us :- ) Thx for the post!
Love her angel face…most of my friend who works on TV/models says the same things after the shows no more make up…
just simple and minimum…
i will add a good juice to balance all this…

She looks at least 5 years younger than she really is (I couldn’t resist googling). After all the make up a model must bear! She’s wonderful))

Thanks Garance! I’m now suffering with extreme envy! I used to have a flawless skin as a teenager and now I’m suffering from adult acne :(

She has gorgeous skin! As most people do in their twenties. Will you please do a feature on someone with great skin over 35?
I agree Leah! That would be wonderful to see. Particularly on this site because it does not overdo editing imperfections and lets people real and always beautiful skin show through.
What a perfectly natural, lovely smile and happy eyes this photo captures. I think I shall give Cetaphil a go again, especially in these upcoming winter months, after reading this. Her asymmetrical earring is a flawless finish to her look as well!
I never wear make up unless I’m working or am having a really bad skin day!
giveaway on my blog!

My Fantabulous World
my rules are: not too much make up, no fondation, only bb cream and only under my eyes where i have dark circles, good cleanser twice a day, micellar water and a light gwl cream.
i think that too much on the skin is no good (too much make up, too much heavy cream, too much cleaning).
sorry my english, i am italian :)

Hi Garance, not sure if anyone else is having this similar problem but when I go to the drop down menu to translate to English on my smartphone there seems to be a problem. Instead of the translation going to the current story it sends me to an article from the past and then I have to search for the current date. This is something new since your most recent changes. Not sure if this is intentional or if Im doing something wrong? Any suggestions?
Thank you,
Ellen
Woauh ça fait du bien de lire une minette pour qui un coup de brumisateur ne suffit pas pour avoir une peau parfaite!
Love Ling Skincare. Not so secret NYC treasure. Best facials and great not crazy expensive skin care line. True pros.
