We are under frigid temperatures here in New York, so we are thrilled to bring you this warm and thoughtful beauty minute from Sophia, the founder and designer of the made-to-order resort label Fanm Mon, which is inspired by her Haitian roots.
What is your morning beauty routine?
I believe skin care starts with inner care.
It’s so important to consume the foods, in ways most beneficial to our body and skin. I start my day with a glass of water, sometimes with lemon. I’m really big on juicing in the morning. I use any of my juice remains on my face, followed by very cold water rinse. That is my morning routine face wash. Followed by raw olive oil as moisturizer. Coconut or Shea butter, lip balm in the morning and throughout the day for my lips.
What products do you use throughout the day and why?
None really, but I do give my face a cold water rinse, by lunch time. I have pure white, organic cotton face towels at home and in the atelier. I use one, once a day.
What is your evening beauty routine?
For my face…
Some nights fresh aloe vera, grated cucumber, raw honey. (These could be used in the morning as well, if juiced then. Sometimes I leave extra in the fridge to wash my face in the evening.) I have a pore steam cleaner I use a few times a week before bed. For oil removal, carbonate rinse once or twice a week.
My philosophy with beauty is, it’s an inside job. And, if I can’t eat it, it does not belong on my skin.
For Body…
Local handmade soap with different herbs, followed by coconut oil or shea butter skin moisturizer.
What is your definition of beauty?
The truest version or ourselves with all of our flaws! Pretty much like nature.
When do you feel most beautiful?
When consumed with so much gratitude, that beauty as I, and society knows it, does not matter. I feel bless to say, this is most days.
