A New Leaf

Fall is the best time to play with new beauty looks. The weather is finally cool enough for a matte face, and you can wear lipstick without it (or you) melting. I’m already gravitating towards more powdery products, deeper shades and bolder statements, like a strong, filled-in brow or inky, graphic eyeliner. Isn’t there something invigorating about a fresh tube of lipstick or a sharp kohl pencil that symbolizes turning over a new page?? Inspired by the fall runways, here are a few of the beauty looks we’re excited to try here in the studio. Now just hoping we can pull them off as well as Kyle and Valen, our beautiful faces today, can…
A youthful take on the classic feline flick was seen at Kenzo, Oscar de la Renta and Simone Rocha. Offbeat, hand-drawn eye makeup helps build our edgy illusion, especially when paired with a military jacket or oversized puffer (because we’ll be needing those real soon!). Consider it the cat-eye’s cool older sister.
Built from a mood board of photos of a young Kate Moss, Jane Birkin, and Marianne Faitfull, the doe-eyed beauties at Carven were the perfectly modern version of a vintage look. With their twiggy lashes, soft complexions, and peachy lips, the slightly amped-up nouvelle vague version of the natural look adds a touch of polish to fall’s tailoring. We’re getting back to business!
If you missed the window in high school where looking slightly gothic was in, the vampy, noir lips as seen at Dior, Max Mara, and Marni are making a case for you to cross over to the dark side once again. Dial it down a notch with a subtle, semi-sheer deep grape stain if you find yourself veering away from the 90s supermodel look and heading toward a borderline Marilyn Manson look instead. Rebellious and casually striking, rich berry shades are a moody, androgynous alternative to a bright red lip. And imagine them paired with velvets, sequins, shearlings, and leopard prints? Oh my…
The metallic eye looks at Stella McCartney and Courregès are perhaps the easiest and most original makeup revision for fall. A brave look that doubles as a trick to illuminate your face as the darker days kick in. Win win. Plus, if you take after Stella and go bare – no brows, no mascara, and just a touch of lip balm – the flash of molten silver in the corner of your eye will be just the right amount of bold, and will have you out the door in 5 minutes. Win win…win.

J’adore le natural new wave!!!! <3
Merci!!!
Belle journée,
Julie,
that lip colour is just divine…
Merci!
Beautiful makeup and models! I love every single look. And the pictures have such an amazing lighting… really love it :) The silver makeup is probably my favorite. It goes perfectly with brown eyes and dark, warm skin tone but do you think it will also look good with fair skin and green eyes (maybe a bit grayish green)?
Changing seasons doesn’t really change my makeup. I prefer dewy look, and also I have very dry, sensitive skin, so I never go matte, it just doesn’t work for me. And I’m really boring, I wear only champagne or light brown eyeshadow, pinkish-nude cream blush and eventually some lipstick (see? boring). I actually love lipsticks, so seriously, right now I’m dying to try berry lips! I’m afraid I’m gonna look like a vampire, but whatever. Or maybe it’s just a matter of finding the right shade, I’ll keep looking!

Hello, the photos and the models, the make-up looks and the styling are all superb! What a glorious post. Could you please also put the credits for the sweaters. I love them! Thank you, E.
The make-up is lovely, but can you also tell us where to find those scrumptious sweaters?
So… gonna tell us which products you’re using so we can get the same look?
How ’bout the lipstick and the silver eyeliner? (Is it a powder? a pencil? a liquid?)
what a nice dark lipstick color.. :)
Cocomauku
Beautiful looks! Thanks for the fall inspiration! Also, I love that you are featuring more natural beauty brands. I’ve tried to go exclusively organic or natural in my skincare and makeup, and it’s great to see some of that here! Yay healthy skin! :)
