Ok, this time it’s serious — I’ve signed up for surfing classes!!! Here I go!!
I’m packing my bags for Costa Rica right now, where I’ll be spending New Year’s on the beach trying to climb onto my surfboard. I have a feeling my pro surfer girl friends are going to laugh at me. But hey, you have to start somewhere, right?
And besides, no one can ever take away how much fun it was to go “surf” shopping hahaha. Here are the first few things I’m putting into my suitcase. Ok, maybe I won’t be waxing my board after one lesson, but it’s really pretty, don’t you think?

Have fun!!! Of course you have to start somewhere — I took surfing classes in Tofino last summer and after the first day, there were muscles hurting I didn’t even know I had. And I only stood on the board a few times for all of 15 seconds. Surfing is a tough, exhausting sport but really fun, I have never laughed so hard. Have fun and enjoy Costa Rica’s natural beauty!

Have fun!! Remember to bring alot of mosquito repellent like Deet. The mosquitos there are vicious there!
Enjoy surfing! Two key things I learned:
1. Make sure you learn proper “paddling out” technique from the beginning. My coach let us do whatever we wanted, then showed us correct form days later. I’d been doing it wrong & ended up really my shoulders. Spread your fingers – basically, think jazz hands when paddling out. Seems inefficient but spares your shoulders.
2. Practice popping up. A lot. Practice on dry land as much as you can. Before surfing, after surfing. Practice your pop up.
I learned so much more than that, about surfing and life in general, but those lessons will come to you on your own (and be different than mine, no doubt). :) Happy new year to you, Garance, and your team!

1) tu passes ton jour de l’an AU SOLEIL (et très dépaysant aussi j’imagine – je ne l’ai encore jamais fait, ce sera la première fois pour moi cette année à Annaba, au bord de la Méditerranée!)
2) tu te mettes au surf, tu vas pouvoir te la jouer toute Gisele Bundchen dehors haha!
3) l’équipement de la parfaite surfeuse soit si joli!

Quelle beau surfing kit! Figure-toi qu’apprendre à surfer est aussi ma bonne résolution – j’emménage à Sydney dans 3 semaines, ça va faciliter les choses. J’avais pris un cours l’an dernier à Surfers’ Paradise (toujours en Australie), c’était très très difficile mais j’ai adoré! J’ai hâte de savoir comment tu t’en sors et si tu aimes ça, tes récits me seront très utiles en préparation de ma propre expérience ;-)

surfing is life changing. I’m so psyched you’re going and I have the same Patagonia wetsuit and its comfy and cute.
Les grands esprits se rencontrent….. ce sera initiation au surf pendant la période estivale (c’est loin mais bon …) après être restée sur la plage pendant des années à regarder mes deux loulous apprendre et maintenant surfer. Je me lancerai ….
