A Beauty Minute with Charlotte Cho
5 years ago by
Morning:
I shower in the mornings, so I massage a dime sized amount of the Then I Met You Living Cleansing Balm into my skin and then hop into the shower to rinse it all off. I continue on with the double cleanse in the shower (in between my AMH shampoo, conditioner and body wash). After using a microfiber towel to dry my hair, I go straight into a hydrating toner and essence and then follow up with a moisturizer. My sunscreen of choice for the summer is the Thank You Farmer Sun Project Essence, which has SPF 50 and is so lightweight and disappears effortlessly into my skin.
My makeup consists of a really winged cat eye – I pretty much exclusively use Em Cosmetics products to get my eyeliner, eyebrows and cheeks on point, along with a hydrating layer of Erborian BB Creme to keep my skin looking even and matte. If I have extra time, I use a flatiron or a Hot Tools curling iron to get beachy waves in my hair.
Day:
On my desk, I have a facial mist from D’alba that I spritz on my skin occasionally throughout the day. For some reason, facial misting is not as popular in the US as it is in Korea, although it’s an easy trick to keep your skin glowing and supple.
Evening:
There’s nothing more satisfying than doing the double cleanse routine with a full face of makeup. The Then I Met You Living Cleansing Balm and the Soothing Tea Cleansing Gel ensures I am starting with a clean slate. I prep my skin with the Isntree Green Tea Fresh Toner and then I soak in my skin with the Son Rev Bio Treatment Essence. I mix a bit of the Neogen Vita C Powder Lemon in with the essence to help fade my pigmentation from the hormonal acne that persists on my chin. If I’m not sheet masking with the Mediheal NMF sheet mask, I’m finishing off my routine with the SkinRX MadeCera Cream.
What inspired you to launch Then I Met You?
My intention with Then I Met You was to make the most efficacious products for your routine, with the premium ingredients and luxurious experience I know matter. This didn’t happen overnight. It took about a decade of living in Korea, experiencing products as a customer, becoming an esthetician, and many years of hands-on experience with Soko Glam and connecting with customers to reach this point.
What’s unique about Then I Met You is that it’s more than just a beauty brand. Then I Met You is rooted in the Korean concept of jeong, which is cultivated by taking the time to develop deep emotional bonds with the people, places and things that matter most. I’ve used jeong, as a guiding principle for not only product development, but the consumer experience as well. My hope is that Then I Met You will not only serve as a turning point in your skin routines, but also transform the way you live and feel.
What sets Korean skincare apart?
Korean skin care products are known for their innovative textures, ingredients, packaging and delivery systems that produce effective results while being accessible in price point.
Korean beauty is also a mindset and a skin-first philosophy that goes beyond products, 10-step routines or sheet masks. It’s not about what you use but how you think about skin care. In Korea, skin care is preventative and the practice of taking care of your skin begins at an early age like basic hygiene practices. The more time you invest in taking care of your skin and understanding what your are using, the better results you will see.
Why do you swear by the double cleanse?
You’d be surprised by the amount of impurities that are on your skin that need a two-step process to remove thoroughly. Makeup, sunscreen, pollution, bacteria and excess sebum is a recipe for breakouts and premature aging. Once you double cleanse with an oil cleanser followed by a water based cleanser, your skin will be noticeably brighter and clearer. That’s why I started Then I Met You with The Cleansing Duo, which is a nod to my love for the double cleanse.
