The Surf Lodge
6 years ago by
A mere four years ago The Surf Lodge was a rundown motel looking for facelift. That’s where Jayma came in. She saw the potential and revamped Surf Lodge into the the destination it’s become.
While you can go on a Friday or Saturday night and find a line of eager party seekers — what we loved about it is that you can also go on Thursday night and run into Cynthia Rowley and her surf camp eating at a long table while listening to a reggae band and sipping rosé. Or stop by on Saturday afternoon to hear Esther Perel talk about all things love and relationships.
What’s even cooler, is that the Surf Lodge has artist residences, where you can trade your art to stay at the Surf Lodge — for free! We love a good barter and trade system where each person ends up a winner.
Hello,
Thank you for this lovely post. I write to correct you about artists who trade their work in exchange to stay/work at the lodge. The art or effort to make work comes at dramatic values, and hopefully greatly values those who interact with the “work.” This exchange predicates the opposite of “free.” Monetary price, value, and aspirations towards betterment are not interchangeable concepts as capitalistic culture dictates.
Cute :)
