Jocelyne the Great

6 years ago by

Jocelyne is everything I hope to be as a woman. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone so sure of themselves. Her presence is as bold as it is soft and gentle. She lights up a room without taking center stage and isn’t trying to be anything but herself, which is what I consider to be truly cool. It’s not about the fact that she is incredibly well dressed (because she is) or has those natural luscious curls we all dream about (because she does), Jocelyn just does, is, and becomes whoever and whatever she wants to be. And as a young woman, I admire that. So with a smile of admiration on my face I’d like to introduce you all to Jocelyne Beaudoin!

As a Set Designer your job is all about the little details that might otherwise go unnoticed. Does this type of finesse transfer to your personal style?
My clothes must be well-cut, well-made and in good quality, natural fabrics. I might be the only one who sees the seams, the lining, etc… but I can’t stand it if it’s not really well executed. As I get older, I find that I can’t pull off cheap clothes or bad fabrics. So, I buy most of my clothes from friend’s stores or 2nd-hand consignment shops.

You’ve lived in New York for 30+ years – how has the city influenced your style or the woman you’ve become and what do you love most about it?
I love it that in New York you can show up absolutely anywhere in jeans and a t-shirt. Don’t get me wrong, I love dressing up, but with my job which often goes into mega overtime, I would miss so many events if I had to go home to change first. The beauty here is that nobody cares. I come from Montreal, Canada which is much more formal, in most situations it would simply be unacceptable to show up not “dressed” for the event. The other thing I love here is the absolute diversity, so many different great looks from all over the world on the street and so many cool kids! It’s great here that everything is available to anyone, in some form or other, from sample sales, barely used 2nd-hand shops and sometimes good knock-offs. The diversity has definitely opened my horizons and let me become more adventurous.
