In sports, a hat-trick is the achieving of a positive feat three times in a row during a game, or other achievements based on threes in some sports. But it seems like that same definition might hold true for finding 3 (or 10) stunning hats for summer – what could be more positive than that?!
When we talked about putting together summer hats, I was sort of stumped. To my recollection I’ve had one , or two at best, warm weather hats in my adult life. Both of which were far from perfect. Too floppy. Too old-fashioned, I looked like Anne of Green Gables goes to Ibiza – which is, well, weird. Nothing to suit the permanent vacation vibes I was hoping to achieve. Or at least pretend to be living.
But hats are great for so many reasons! Like… great for shading our all too precious faces from the ultra-violet rays, great for making an otherwise repetitive summer uniform feel new, and also great for topping off bed-head hair….
So in the spirit of hat-lovers and sports fans alike, a few tricks up our sleeves and 10 hats to prove it on the infectiously happy Anabel….
The wide-brim may have been Anabel’s favorite, perhaps for its obvious drama but, in terms of creating shade off those fair shoulders, there is no better choice.
A boater is maybe a less traditional choice (unless you have plans of attending a polo match á la Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman anytime soon) – however, it feels modern paired with something a bit more irregular – like an iridescent earring made by your best friend.
You can’t go wrong with what is likely the equivalent to a hole-in-one with the Panama hat. This one in particular is so lovely with its feather band wrapping the dome – perfect with a cool tee.
A visor! Okay, not for everyone – and certainly not for everyday. Just think of those days when you feel sporty but can’t bear to wear a baseball cap – a leather visor is chic even with a dress.
The fedora always makes me think of gangsters (although after a little research, I found out they actually were worn by women first! BOOM!) – but the gentle pink hues of this one from Albertus Swanepoel only blend seamlessly to a summer tan, and help keep wind from the face.
Revived in the 60s as “high-fashion”, the bucket hat is every bit as cool (and extra cool with its ventilated grommet holes) today as it was then. So take a knitted kimono and your Lauren Hutton aspirations to the beach immediately.
How dreamy is a colorful braid-trimmed hat? Especially when worn with something simple, like a crisp white shirtdress.
For those days when nothing seems like enough fun, I think a hat trimmed with fringed raffia will make any day better. Go the extra mile and wear it with a mesh-seascape printed top too! YOLO!
Do you have a favorite hat for the heated days of summer? How do you wear it?

I love hats, find it wonderful. But as I am very small, all kind of hats don’t fit! I need to choose a little hat not to be kind of drown under it!
And as I have a little head, it is difficult to find a hat which is not too big for me!!!
Love so much the first one!
Enjoy your weekend!

Cool post !
Hey Brie,
I love the hat worn on the pic with the blud top and the oversized jeans, but I haven’t understood which one it was…
first off — she is so cute! she reminds me of a young Kate Moss. Second, I’m loving all these hats! It’s true that it’s hard to find the perfect one. I feel sometimes that my head is just not fit for hats

J’adore les chapeaux, mais je dois avouer que c’est plus facile de les porter en hiver qu’en été !
Really nice story, layout and references. However…. I am struggling trying to figure out the reference for that lovely indigo blue Kimono. I think I clicked on all the links to try to find it, but came up empty handed. HELP! ??
Hey Brie. Gorgeous shoot. I’m a big visor fan myself – practical and cool on the head! I am a hat maker from New Zealand, currently living and making hats in London! I make beautiful visors using vintage fabrics, plus many other styles too!
