The Met Gala!
9 years ago by
This year, at the Met Gala, was the year of the pant suit!
We were all wondering where exactly the Chinese imagery theme would lead people… And, like every year, there were some who kept it super safe and others who took it to the extreme (ahem, Rihanna), but there were also some super chic looks that were so on point.
And our favorite women wore the pants.
You know we love an all-white look ;) This look is effortless and chic, but just different enough.
Sienna Miller in Thakoon
She’s an old favorite (remember that ear jewelry at the punk-themed Met Gala?), and gets it right again.
Liya Kebede in Phillip Lim
When you’re torn between a dress and pants, go for both. Somehow this just works.
Jenna Lyons in J.Crew
Has there ever been a more elegant take on the pajama set? (No.)
And a special shout out to Karolina Kurkova in Tommy Hilfiger and Karen Nelson in Dolce & Gabbana, who both wore dresses that worked perfectly with the theme and were something a little more fun…
What was your favorite look?
We love a power statement like a pant suit… Perfection

Alexa Chung in Erdem and Chloë Sevigny in J.W.Anderson were my favorites.
Liya Kebede and Jenna Lyons. Loved all the pants too. The Theme confused me a bit when looking at some of the outfits.
Yes to the pant suit! Rihanna’s was gorgeous – I definitely felt like so many were wearing similar things though.
Warm Regards,
Alexandra

Thanks for showing the most elegant looks out of the bunch (girls in pants, yeah!) and not the horrendous gowns worn by the others ladies. Like seriously I know huge stars these days are showing it all but Beyonce’s look is far from being Chinese inspired and she could have gown naked at that point! It’s the freaking Met Gala not the MTV Video Music Award, dress appropriately! I’m not conservative at all but I’m so tired of seeing so much nakedness. It’s so frustrating for adolescents girls and girls in her early twenties (like me) to see that image of women be forced on us constantly. I actually don’t mind Lady Gaga or Rihanna’s looks because they are having fun and at least are trying to fit in with the theme.
The headpiece of the century…..this and maybe the last.

Sienna Millet, though it reminds me of Spain rather than China.
Anyway, great innovative look :)

My favourites were Alexa Chung and Georgia May Jagger. Jamie King was more classic but looked fantastic so I loved her look too. An Jenna Lyons… welll, what can I say? That I’m in love with her and all her outfits?

E.

FKA Twigs in Christopher Kane!
Je suis entièrement d’accord, c’est dingue ! Diane Kruger et Sienna Miller ont toujours tout bon, et Jenna Lyons est juste sublime !!

C’était surtout la soirée “montrez-nous-vos-fesses-Mesdames” !!!
Karen Elson, hands down. She looked spectacular – extravagant but so elegant.
Look of the night was Rihanna! And Bee Shaffer, Keri Russell, Gong Li, and Diane Kruger. Why is Jenna Lyons wearing mesh over pajamas!
Anne Hathaway in her gorgeous golden dress. She didn’t remind me of the theme directly, but looked so elegant.
I loved Bee Shaffer’s dress. She’s a bit curvy and that dress was just stunning and a work of art. I also loved the Chinese actress Fan Bingbing in that spectacular green embroidered cape over the gold column dress. JLo, Kim K. (in her white version of Beyonce at the Gala in 2012) and Queen Bey did nothing for me. Pure exhibitionism and at an art museum fund raiser? Huh? I loved the pant ensembles, just wish Sienna’s didn’t look like she forgot her top, a hint less bare chest and she’d have been one of my favorites.
Oh, one last thought. I was surprised that no one was wearing Dries van Noten. His style esthetic seems perfect for the theme. That’s who I’d have worn, had I shelled out $25,000 for a ticket!
Pants rocks!

I was really disappointed with the standard. It’s a great theme, but I don’t think anyone knocked it out of the park. Karen Elson’s headdress was great, but the dress had nothing to do with the theme. And, Kim, Beyoncé, JLo, we are sick of looking at your damn asses, put them away.
I actually fell in love what Sarah Jessica Parker was wearing, and that headpiece was just freaking amazing. I mean, c’mon, it’s a fashion event – that was so totally into the theme.
My absolute favourite (in addition to Diane Kruger) was Poppy Delevigne. Rhianna was very interesting actually – I really liked the juxtaposition of the brocade and fur with the train…a modernised Renaissance.
I loved Grace Coddington’s pajama outfit! She just seems so easy going about life so I loved that she chose that look based on the fact that she had to catch a flight later, haha. She’s just one-of-a-kind!
These are among my favourite too!

Love your 4 choices to show us of beautiful women at the 2015 Met Gala. Don’t know if you saw it on David Letterman but, Tina Fey gave a wonderful description of events simikar to this and also a hilarious “exhibition” of the importance of undergarments. Love you, love Tina…both “keeping it real.”
Karen Nelson?
