Inspirations, Dries Van Noten

The Dries Van Noten exhibition, Inspirations, at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, is one of the most beautiful things I’ve seen this year.
The way it’s curated is sublime — it’s full of treasures. Dries Van Noten never stops showing his work – he wanted to reveal the path that led to his inspiration. The clothes are presented with art, with Picasso, with Vasarely, videos, newspaper clippings… and it’s all integrated into his love of gardens… It’s such a rich show, it would be impossible to describe it to you.
I had gone there to photograph it for you, but something that rarely happens to me happened this time – on my way back home, I lost all the photos. After totally losing it and not being able to even talk about it until today shedding a few tears, I decided to get philosophical about it. It must mean that this show is just made to be seen in person.
The dates of the exhibition have just been extended – of course – to the end of October.
Having the luck to be invited into this unique, brilliant, marvelous and generous creator’s world is an opportunity not to be missed!
It’s really worth the trip.

I visited Paris for the first time a couple of weeks ago (I’m from Dallas), and my twin sister and I definitely made time to see this show. It was so incredible. And I think that Azuma Makoto’s installation really ties the entire thing together so beautifully – it really makes the show a work of art itself.

I am going back to France at the end of August! I will go to this exhibition, for sure!

That girl in the picture, the one with head accessory, in instant glance reminded of the princess in Never Ending Story. It’s magnificent where these artists get their inspirations, makes for a great, personal story.
Oserais-je dire que c’est un bon ruminant ! Il mixe ce qui existe déjà ! parfois c’est fantastique. j’ai trouvé pénible ce manque d’audace, cette répétition du passé babacool qui pique ds tous les pays. J’étais déçue. Si tu veux vivre une expérience exceptionnelle, avec des moments de méditation pure parfois, va voir le vidéaste Bill Viola au Grand Palais. voilà un inventeur génial !

Je suis tellement d’accord. J’ai adoré l’expo et je me suis aussi acheté le livre… Je recommande vivement à tous mes amis de la voir car chaque vêtement exposé est vraiment une œuvre d’art et les photos des défilés que l’on peut voir sur le net ne rendent pas justice au travail effectué. Après l’expo, je crois que j’ai eu des étoiles dans les yeux pendant des jours.. D’ailleurs puisqu’elle est prolongée je vais peut être y retourner ;)

Je suis d’accord avec toi : c’est une chance de pouvoir entrer dans l’univers de ce merveilleux créateur. Cela montre aussi que la mode est bien plus qu’une affaire de tissus : les interconnections entre les arts, les époques, les styles, les disciplines en font un monde très riche dans lequel chacun peut puiser de l’inspiration.

J’avais voulu y aller il n’y a pas longtemps puis il y avait (comme toujours) des grèves dans les transports, bref, j’avais du renoncer. Alors je vais filer la voir cette expo !
Effectivement cette exposition est sublime, il est rare qu’un créateur dévoile ainsi ses sources d’inspirations.
La scénographie est bien pensée, l’éclairage aussi, un petit bémol toutefois, dommage quelle ne soit pas un peu plus conséquente.

J’ai adoré l’expo et je compte retourner la voir. Tant qu’à faire je conseille de traverser la Seine et d’aller jeter un coup d’oeil à la boutique parisienne, tellement sublime, quai Malaquais.

J’avais beaucoup aimé le fait aussi qu’il raconte que ses inspirations ne venaient pas forcément de voyages à l’autre bout du monde (comme pourtant on aurait pu le croire en regardant ses créations), mais qu’il s’évadait surtout dans son jardin…
Dries van Noten is most definitely a huge source of inspiration for me, I have so much respect for his work and for the man himself.
I already got this beautiful book which is a must have for everyone loving beauty and to know now that I will be able to see the exhibition on my next trip to Paris in September just made my day ;)
Je suis allée voir l’expo, quasiment tout au début d’ailleurs, et elle est vraiment belle, apaisante, inspirante. Je ne savais pas qu’elle avait été prolongée, mais ça ne m’étonne pas du tout !
