Les trucs faits main ou artisanaux, j’adore. Moi, je suis tout le temps en train de tenter de nouvelles expériences, de prendre de nouveaux cours (cours pour devenir prof de yoga, cours de cuisine, j’ai presque tout essayé), donc en toute logique, maintenant, j’ai envie d’essayer la poterie.
Peut-être que c’est la mythique scène de Ghost avec Patrick Swayze et Demi Moore qui m’a transmis cet amour de la poterie, mais j’adore le côté « on s’en met partout » de cette technique. Alors quand j’ai découvert le compte Instagram @tortus_copenhagen d’Eric Landon, ça m’a mise en transe, et je suis tombée en pâmoison devant la moindre photo ou vidéo. Déjà, c’est absolument fascinant d’observer ces créations prendre vie, mais en plus les œuvres sont vraiment belles. Comme ces fragiles vases de toutes les tailles, formes et couleurs… que je rêve d’avoir chez moi
Peut-être que je m’inviterai dans son atelier quand j’irai en Norvège cet été… j’ai bien le droit de rêver, non ? Mais en attendant, vous connaîtriez un endroit à NY où on peut prendre de vrais cours de poterie avec un tour ?

I loved this kind of thing as a child! We even tried to build our own wheel and make pots with clay that we had dug out of the bottom of our pool. :)) Not very successful but just trying was great fun, too!

The 92Y has a pottery class, not sure how authentic the experience is, but it’s something:)
On a different but similar note, Urban Glass is a really cool place to try « handmade » (or should I say mouth made :) glass techniques.
I’m currently taking classes at Choplet in Williamsburg with Bobby Croze–it’s so much fun, and as an artist in different mediums, I am finding it to be a completely new and rewarding challenge!

Engaging in the process of making pottery really helps you appreciate the amount of time, dedication, and love it takes to make something as simple as a bowl. I definitely think its an art form everyone should try!
