Film Buff

Boyhood: Un MUST. Unique.

  • No film of Woody Allen, that’s for sure. They’re not even good anymore, anyway.

  • anything by miyazaki: they are classics! :)

  • The Expendables 3: dumb, loud and a truckload of muscle men. What’s not to like?!

  • I’m with you. If I haven’t seen a movie on a Big Screen it usually means I don’t want to see it. « Boyhood » was a definite « must see » and deserves all the accolades it’s getting — I’m betting it’s at least nominated for Best Picture. « Magic in the Moonlight » was just silly, but worth seeing for the gorgeous South of France location (and every scene looks like it was filmed at dusk when the light is golden), and the 20s fashion and set design. Also on my list is Happy Christmas (Joe Swanberg’s new film), 100 Foot Journey (another trip to the South of France), and maybe « A Most Wanted Man’ just to see Phillip Seymour Hoffman one more time.

  • Belinda I’m totally with you on A Most Wanted Man! And I will certainly look into your other picks, thanks for the tips :)

  • I can’t wait to see About Alex and Tracks in September!

  • I’m surprised you didn’t mention Obvious Child. With a female lead and female director it’s hilarious and charming and actually casts women in a real light.

  • I haven’t been to the movies in WAY too long, but all three are on my list as well. I used to go alone all the time on empty summer afternoons in college, and it was my favorite guilty pleasure to get some Sno-Caps and a Diet Coke and just sit alone all afternoon. Can’t do that with a full time job, sadly!

I am absolutely sold on the hundred foot journey. I love food, wine, family and all the craziness that comes with it! I cannot wait to see it.

  • Thank you Brie
i just put them on my list..can’t tell you how addict i am to pop corn ,i even tried a diet only on pop corn…but that’s for another time..
it just that it is still very nice outside so i try to enjoy the weather..before we are all back to fall..

  • love woody allen-
    always so fresh and creative

i liked  »Maleficent » a lot–much deeper, beautiful and more fun than the critics made it out to be! it’s more of an adult story than a kids’ movie..

  • Mood Indigo is good– but not as uplifting as you may think. Just like the book (which I highly recommend), it is very very dark. Make sure you are prepared for this!

I will check out Boyhood, I love his films. I watched the Chinese Puzzle also with Audrey Tatou and Romain Duris and loved it for a light but not dumb comedy and drama with Frenchies in NYC. After catching the exhibit, Paparazzi, while in Frankfurt this summer, I feel like watching La Dolce Vita and Roman Holiday!

  • I saw Two Days, One Night with Marion Cotillard this past weekend. It seems to be one of those movies you either love or hate: I loved it.
Boyhood is a bit daunting with it’s 2.5 hours duration! I may still see it though; I have two little boys.

  • J’aime bien Emma Stone, donc pourquoi pas Magic in the Moonlight (même si les critiques ne sont pas tops).

    Hi Brie,,
i was so disappointed when I saw l’ecume des jours, Gondry’s worst film ever.
Gondry crazy universe is there, Boris Vian’s poetry is there but the actors are sadly not the right choice.
Audrey Tautou is beautiful, but she always plays the same.
Roamin Duris seems to forget to grow up and he’s still the young rebel of Klapish moovies.

I didn’t see the 2 other moovies but they seem promessing.

If you see l’ecume des jours, I’m interesting in your feeback.

    have a nice day.

Cet été, j’attends New York Melody. J’adore Mark Ruffalo !

  • Can’t wait to see these movies

    Xx

  • Haha – I just saw all three of your movie choices! Boyhood today. It didn’t seem that long.

I want to see the new Italian movie – A Five Star Life and of course Helen Mirren in The Hundred-Foot Journey. I live in Northern California (SF Bay Area) and have to drive to the movie theaters. I was in Paris and I miss walking one or two minutes in the 6th/Odeon to many of the movie theaters.
