The Face of Margiela
10 years ago by
This is a serious head-scratcher. It’ll be interesting to see how Galliano honors the brand DNA of Margiela. It’s hard to imagine what the result of that fusion would be. So it’s probably going to be really exciting.
Man, I kinda feel for the guy. He must’ve pissed of the wrong people to have been dragged through the mud so publicly.
he is in charge of the couture section only, i gather. margiela is owned by renzo rosso, nothing is like it was during martin margiela’s time. i am curious to see what he’ll do… not excited though, this seems a bad/weird marriage…

well, I appreciate his creative genius, and I used to shop at MMM, but from now, i will have to say goodbye to this brand. somehow, his anti-semitic remarks, and explanations that followed (even more actually), were a deal breaker for me.
I love Margiela, especially the dresses!

On verra bien…
I’m also excited about what Galliano will create. I am also glad he is getting a second chance. People make mistakes in life, and we don’t know what kind of state of mind he was in. It’s not excusable, but I do believe in forgiving, and giving someone a second opportunity. I hope he succeeds!

Goodness me, this is dreadful news. I love Margiela. I don’t love John Galliano. Being talented does not excuse disgusting behaviour and worse narrowminded prejudice. Plus, I just don’t see the connection between Galliano’s aesthetic and that with which we have come to associate with Margiela. We’ll see, I’m sure.
I totally agree. I can’t see those two things separately.
great post

For me this is very disappointing news. You can forgive but sometimes never forget and his name on this brand will always remind me of something loathsome.

I’m so excited about this

It`s important that we separate between the private and the professional person. We all make mistakes and he has paid for his. Forgiving is an important part of life!
Now he is back in business and I cannot understand why we should not look forward to his design and creativity. Personally I think a change is for the good and Galliano has shown previously that he is able to both adjust and develop brands. Unfortunately I will probably never own a couture dress but I love the MMM items I have and will continue to follow the brand.

I wear quite a bit MMM as well. I’m tall and it fits like a dream. And I love their simple surrealist style. And, controversy aside, I just don’t Galliano fitting in with the label’s sensibilities. He’s just a little too frilly. I guess they’re going a different direction and frankly, I’m disappointed.
WE ALL MAKE MISTAKES! WE ALL HAVE DONE THINGS WE REGRET! HE WHO HAVE NO SIN CAST THE FIRST STONE! ALL FAITH ADVOCATE FORGIVENESS! BEST WISHES TO MR.GALLIANO
Come on people! Many designers are hired to « rework » a brand! Personally I can’t wait to see what Galliano concocts!
What Galliano did a few years ago was beyond atrocious . What he said was even worse. But I have followed his path after his departure from France. I have listened to his remarks..his own explanation as to why he said the things he did. I am not Jewish, but I believe within the Jewish faith there is forgiveness.
I think Galliano is not a perfect man but he is trying to do his repent within the Jewish community for his remarks .
I am willing not to forget but to forgive .
I hope there is a fashion fusion I the marriage of Margiela and Galliano.
