Oui, on va au musée pour la stimulation intellectuelle et parce qu’on aime l’art, mais est-ce qu’une œuvre d’art a déjà suscité chez vous une réaction de l’ordre de l’émotion ? C’est une expérience difficile à expliquer et même à comprendre, mais certaines personnes disent qu’admirer une œuvre d’art, c’est un peu comme tomber amoureux.
Pendant les vacances, j’ai eu la chance de pouvoir visiter l’un de mes musées parisiens préférés, le musée d’Orsay (rien que le fait que ce soit une ancienne gare est une expérience en soi), et je me suis prise à avoir les larmes aux yeux. Des artistes comme Léon Belly et Etienne Dinet me font énormément d’effet. Parfois, on ne sait pas trop ce que représente l’œuvre mais on est pris par l’atmosphère de la salle, la lumière, il y a toute une émotion qui circule. Une photo peut avoir le même effet puissant, surtout prise en plein mouvement ou à un moment historique. Je sais, je n’invente rien, mais c’est fou qu’une œuvre puisse susciter autant d’émotion, juste comme ça.

Love this! I’ve had a strong emotional reaction to a piece of art twice in my life. The first was to Ellsworth Kelly’s piece « City Island »…the second, the Matisse painting « Woman with a Hat. » Two completely different genres, but simply amazing pieces of art that explore the power of color.

I happened to come across Rosetti’s The Daydream as I came round the corner in Musée D’Orsay about 5 years ago now and it stopped me in my tracks. Had always loved the painting from the images I had seen in books but in real life it was magnificent and had such high an emotional affect on me. Same goes for Caravaggio’s The Taking of Christ at NGI in Dublin.
I also get this dreamy, light feeling after I walk round an art galleries in general, but maybe that’s just me!
Thank you Garance! For reminding me that I need to go to see some exhibition soon. I have been going to those art lectures every week for last few months and somehow I forgot the importance of seeing art in a proper settings, changes the entire perspective!
