Style Story / Nina Sarin Arias
4 years ago by
Nina Sarin Arias has a passion for art and fashion, and she’s been able to combine both with her women’s clothing line, ARIAS. Using an artist as inspiration for each collection, Nina combines detail with female first comfort and elegance in each Arias piece. We recently popped into her Tribeca home to admire her art collection, a few select pieces from Arias and of course, Brunello, her adorable cat.
How would you describe your style in three words?
Inspired, Detail-oriented, Confident
How would you describe the ARIAS woman?
Confident, Ageless, Elegant
Can you talk a bit about the artist who was the inspiration behind your latest collection?
For the new Resort ‘20 collection, I was inspired by Brooklyn-based artist Mika Tajima. I have been following her career for years and also own one of her works. The collection is particularly influenced by her work that is theorized on sound waves and woven into textiles. Resort ’20 explores vibrant color combinations, as Tajima does, with texturally divergent fabrications from crepes to knits, as well as linear prints.
You referred to art and fashion as “sister industries” – can you elaborate on this?
As I am involved in both worlds, I see so many similarities. For example, designers presenting collections during fashion week and artists presenting new bodies of work during gallery shows. The process is similar with both starting from a unique point of view or technique, and an inspiration. Fashion is a form of expression and, depending on the collection and designer, wearable art.
Beautiful home, beautiful aesthetic, beautiful style, beautiful designer!
