Upsize!
9 years ago by

Oversized!!!!! if fitted then only fitted in the waist! x
I love both…it depends even by your own-figure…I’m for the fitted one!

I Love the oversize coat ,they have a special cut that make it looks big but at the same time fit’s perfectly the silhouette…it’s a big different from just taking a bigger size..and you can see it especially on profile..the cut of the shoulder is essential to this silhouette ..
and it’s like that for the last 3 years…

Anja, my idol! She would look good in a potato sack! I’m tiny so no overseized coats for me, even though I love them.

I think equally important is taking into consideration your own shape. Curvy and big-busted women will just look larger in an oversized coat, fitted or slimmer cuts are probably more flattering options. I’ve got junk in my trunk, but fairly narrow shoulders so I can wear oversized if it’s fitted through the shoulders and then has a slight trapeze or cocoon/tulip shape. Again, with slim pants to balance the proportion. I have a YSL coat that I snapped up at the Barneys Warehouse sale six years ago that I’ll wear forever, no matter the trend. Slightly boxy but with enough room for a chunky sweater underneath. I need my layers!
Where is oversize jacket from
Hi Jayne! Its a Fendi coat! xx Brie

Oui oui oui à l’oversize chic!
Interesting question and one I am currently grappling with. I usually wore fitted coats and this year chose a cocoon like black CDG wool. I love it on some days because it is like walking around with a blanket, it is actually heavy, and so keeps me super warm on very cold days. However there are times when I want to move quickly and more nimbly through my day and the coat is a little burdensome. So now I am in the market for a fitted black wool coat. Any suggestions?

I think if you are tall you can get away with oversized, but on shorter people it can look funny. Fitted usually looks best, but I definitely see the appeal. I love an oversized coat.

she is lovely, and a little oversized is chic… but this looks ridiculous. you can’t even see her fingertips.
I like both depending on the weather. I have an oversize grey vintage Swiss Army coat and I wear it cinched at the waste with a Maasai beaded belt and colorful gloves and that seems to work. I am petite but I always just wear whatever I want anyway. *smile*
Elle est tellement seventies Anja, j’adore! Le look, les cheveux, LE MANTEAU!!!!
Je déteste l’hiver et le froid mais alors juste pour les manteaux je me fais une raison, j’en ai des tonnes!

I’m definitely a fan of a good oversized coat. I bought a way to expensive parka from Didriksons this year and I’m pretty sure I can survive a week at the North Pole with this coat, love it to death and beyond! Wouldn’t mind this coat in my closet too though…. And like you’ve already said, she styled it great! xx

Agreed. One needs balance oversize with something fitted especially if one is not 6′ tall! That said, she looks fabulous but with looks like hers, even a sack would be great!
Wow! Superbe ce manteau

Hi Garance! I love coats but live in LA so can’t really wear them that often! You look great in them with the sleeves rolled up, kinda your style. I am thrilled however with 2 new coats I did buy this winter. One is a pale pink from H&M and the other a fuzzy one from Misguided in light grey, my new favorite color this winter along with cranberry/wine. Thank you Garance for your blog and vlog….Can you please do another vlog on what is trending in Paris? Love those. Happy New Year!
I like slightly oversized for winter to fit my sweaters (and sometimes an extra jacket) underneath and room to not feel constricted. However, too big just looks and feels overwhelming on me! I don’t know how the models pull it off. Maybe because they are at least 6″ taller than me… :)
Definitely oversized !! ?
Fitted, all the way :) xx
Cette fille est absolument magnifique et surtout, elle a un style de dingue !! FAN de ce manteau, et je suis complètement d’accord, l’oversize peut être super chic !

I wore huge coats for years (picture Sinead O’Connor in Nothing Compares 2 U or whatever it was called). Then a few years ago I got sick and lost a lot of weight and all my clothes were hanging off me, so I changed when I got better and now I prefer everything to fit like a glove. I like the shoulder line to hit the shoulder. Mind you, even I need one slightly large goat for winter, and I have a great one, but I always feel a bit of a slob when I wear it.
Love that coat!!
