Ça, c’est le Carré Hermès – peut-être l’un des foulard les plus iconiques qui existent.
C’est bien sûr un foulards qu’on se passe de mère en fille, mais ce qui est génial, c’est qu’il continue à se renouveler. Le Carré, c’est un peu comme une toile sur laquelle Hermès (sous la direction de Bali Barret) laisse les artistes s’exprimer.
Moi, j’ai toujours aimé les foulards – c’est ma mère qui m’a passé cette obsession, parce qu’elle collectionne les foulards en soie qu’elle chine.
C’est chic, ça finit un look, et ça a un petit côté désuet qui me plaît énormément. Je les porte autour du cou, dans les cheveux, parfois en ceinture (sur un jean bien délavé, c’est beau !).

Comme ta maman, je collectionne les foulards vinage et j’en porte très souvent. J’en emporte toujours en voyage, même en plein été, ça ne pèse ne rien, ne prends pas de place et sauve ma gorge en cas de clim ou de vent frais ainsi qu’un look un peu tristounet

I love wearing scarves. I have a new one with a geometric pattern from Zara that has some bright yellow in it. Hermes scarves are exquisite! Many years ago I saw an exhibition all about them. . It was fabulous and it even had some demonstrations of how they print the scarves by some of the printer’s who work for Hermes, this was fascinating to watch and the best part of the exhibition.
I think some of their scarves would look amazing framed and put on the wall. Some of the designs are so intricate that you can notice something different in them time and time again.

I love this look! I have one that I wear with a white t-shirt, ripped boyfriend jeans and a vintage Chanel tweed box jacket. It goes from day to night by adding just a red lip :)
On Monday, I wore the beautiful Hermes scarf I bought in Paris in 2007. The background is white with a design of long flowing blue and green ribbons. My mother, sister and I went to the store together, and we all got one. It was such a wonderful experience. When I wrapped that scarf around my neck, that sweet memory of my mother and sister with me in the store looking at the gorgeous designs and artwork and attempting to gracefully tie the scarves around our necks, came rushing back… Also, I have to say, there is something so dignified about wearing it around your neck — tied close with the tails left long and flowing. It was an instant pick-me-up on Monday morning which lasted throughout the day.
There is nothing quite like receiving an orange box!
I have a few of the Hermes square scarves, just wish I was better at tying them. My fave use is as a hater in the summer!

J’adore les foulards et j’en porte regulierement, (dans les cheveux, c’est magnifique.) Sinon j’en noue un a la poignee de mon sac. (Je suis de cette generation !)

I have a special memory of having purchased my first Hermes scarf when I was in Paris celebrating my 50th birthday. It was an amazing experience. The sales associates were so patient as I tried on probably 25 scarfs in an array of colors. I chose one featuring spices from around the world in a beautiful shade of gold with teal and the iconic orange. It lights me up when I put it on. I prefer it folded in a triangle, with the point in the front so you can see the beautiful design. I bring the two sides around and knot either on top or underneath…also great for my aging neck!

Oh, yes, I love silk scarves! I’m so glad the classic square has made a forceful comeback after years of seeing nothing but oblongs. I have loads of scarves, but not an Hermes…yet.

Yes, yes….a scarves slut indeed! Hermes sets the gold standard and luckily for me, I have several. I love the square but also the silk twill which is so nice to wear on your head, handbag or tied around a ponytail. In some ways it’s much easier to throw on.
I also like Chanel ones and just bought a Gucci silk scarf at a vintage store. It came with a top but I really wanted the scarf. Which leads me to ask….how much is too much? I have mohair scarves from S. Africa (not the same thing but to give you an idea how much I’m into them),
cotton ones from Zanzibar, and lots of other nice ones in between that may not be as valuable but look great. They can be like jewelry. Just throw one on and immediately a pulled-together look. Okay, that’s enough.

I also adore scarves! I have several drawers full of them in all colors and sizes. I have two beautiful Liberty of London square paisley scarves from the 40’s that I inherited from an aunt. Those are my favorites, although my Hermes is equally as cherished.
I WANT to wear scarves but haven’t quite figured out how to yet. Can you do some posts on various ways to style a silk (square) scarf???
I have three Hermes which I treasure.
I love to come up with new ways to wear them, so I stop by Hermes to check out the sales staff. They tie, drape, wrap and twist them into works of art.
I always come away inspired.
I do think they can be aging after 40 unless paired with jeans, a trench or t shirt, casual, nothing fussy.
My mother was an original 1960’s scarf hoarder….I do find myself wearing some of her long scarves but am in a quandry about what to do with the smallish squares? I think they were originally knotted inside shirts?

Oh yes, I do wear scarves, and I love the colors in the one that you photographed. I actually started wearing them in earnest about 20 years ago. I had lost all of my hair as the result of chemotherapy (I’m totally healthy now) and a wig just wasn’t for me. Instead, I wrapped scarves around my head. I still have those scarves and several more — my latest was brought back from India for me by my son’s girlfriend. They not only keep this chilly person warm, they are such an easy and great way to make my usual tee-shirt, sweater, and jeans so much more interesting. Maybe one day I’ll own an Hermes, but so far, not yet.

Le carré d’Hermes reste un bel objet par la qualité de la soie et ses dessins qui s’adaptent à l’époque.
Pour éviter de faire trop tata, parce que l’Hermes a aussi une connotation BCBG…il faut les associer aux vêtements branchés ou alors une simplicité classe ! L’été dernier, nous l’avions porté en top dos nu, c’était top !

-Mes foulards c’est toute une histoire, j’en ai de toutes les couleurs pour compléter toutes mes tenues.
Les multicolores sont ceux que je préfère, car ils relèvent toujours une teinte du reste de la tenue.
Je les achète partout, même à Carrefour s’il me plaise, mais surtout à l’étranger pour une touche d’exclusivité.

I have loads of scarves. Bought second hand and new. I don’t have an Hermès. There is a website with vintage Hermès and some of them are absolutely gorgeous.
Smallish squares look nifty inside a shirt or with a sweater. Tie it so the little ends stick out neatly. Or you can tuck them in. It’s a nice pop of colour.
I am over 40. I am not trying to pretend I am younger than I am, which is always a mistake. I can’t figure out why a scarf might be ageing.
I absolutly LOVE scarves. Basically I just spend the whole winter, and the middle of fall and spring with a silk scarf around my neck ;-) (I only like silk ones, yeah.)
I don’t have a scarf square Hermes, but I hope I’ll have one, one day ! My sister had one, for her birthday and it was so awesome to come into one of this dream shops to buy this lovely scarf…

Alors voilà un sujet particulièrement intéressant.. Je trouve ces foulards magnifiques mais n’ai jamais osé en porter un de peur de faire trop « madame ». Ce serait génial si tu pouvais développer le sujet et suggérer des idées pour porter un carré Hermès en faisant plus bobo que bo.

Je ne porte absolument pas de foulards, ce qui est assez idiot mais je suis minimaliste et je manque de fantaisie.
L’emploi que je réserve à nos carrés Hermès (à ma mère et moi) est de les faire encadrer un jour comme je l’ai vu autrefois dans un restaurant (le café de la mer) du Loews à Monaco.Le plus marant est qu’ils avaient justement encadré le foulard que possédait ma mère à cette époque. C’était très beau.
Mon foulard préféré reste son Léonard et je suis tellement contente qu’elle l’ait gardé.

Les foulards c’est mon crédo. :) J’ai crée une marque exclusivement de foulards fabriqués avec des techniques artisanales minoritaires…Du coup je ne vais pas pouvoir être impartiale. Je trouve que c’est l’accessoire parfait et intemporel – qui ça se transmet – se collectionne – et qui habille de manière différente une même tenue. Qui plus est, c’est unisexe ( ou presque).
Et Hermés est le « temple » au sens le plus stric du terme du foulard.
Alors, c’est peut-être le fait d’avoir grandi dans une banlieue prout-prout de l’Ouest parisien, mais les carrés Hermès me rappellent la sortie de la messe le dimanche, les colliers de perles, les serre-têtes et les Barbour!
Ma mère en a quelques uns, des classiques avec des calèches dessus, et franchement, je ne saurai pas quoi en faire… En plus, je les trouve trop grands, trop compliqués à utiliser et à nouer (je ne suis pas sûre d’avoir la taille assez fine pour les porter en ceinture) et, globalement, trop. Mais peut-être qu’un jour, je changerai d’avis?
No, for some reasons scarves always scream « complex! drapes! oh oh oh hair » to me. So no, I never wear them. Besides, in the climate in which I’m in (between tropic and damn-thats-bloody-hot), scarves are never the necessity, only excess style. But I’m probably just being ignorant.
Would love to try if somehow someone invented an anti-tangling scarf

I love my scarves too Garance. I have tried the silk variety but I find they make me look a little too « Grand Dame ». Now I tend to go for the cashmere / silk variety. Like Lily & Lionel, they have amazing prints and are so soft they can be folded into a tiny square to be pulled out when the weather turns a little chilly. What’s not to love?!

J’avoue que non, je n’y pense jamais, il faut dire que j’en ai que un, pas un Hermés hélas.
Mais je pourrais changer d’avis.
Mes parents m’en ont offert un il y a quelques Noëls de ça : outre qu’ils l’ont choisi en orange, qui ne me sied pas au teint (ne jamais laisser choisir pour vous la couleur et le motif), je trouve qu’il fait….vieillot. Quand j’essaie de le mettre, je me sens comme une vieille mémée. J’ai essayé de le nouer à mes sacs mais même là c’est bof.
Je me suis dit que j’allais le revendre, mais c’est un cadeau, en plus de mes parents, donc je culpabilise. Je vais peut-être le donner à ma mère.
Bref, pour l’instant je ne suis pas convaincue.
I DON’T wear scarfs…my man gave me a silk Longchamp one but I only wore it once!!! I love it but it seems that I can’t find a way to adjust it into my wardrobe ….I could use some suggestions here girls…PLEASE!

Deux semaines avant sa disparition, ma mère nous a réunit, mon père, ma soeur, mon frère et moi avec un verre de champagne (ce n’était pas une célébration mais un moment au-delà du solennel). Elle se savait condamnée. On était réunis ensemble pour la dernière fois avant qu’elle ne perde tous ses moyens. Elle nous a fait un leg et à moi et à ma soeur, elle nous a donné chacune, un carré Hermès qu’elle avait depuis des années. Elle n’osait les porter.
Mon carré Hermès, c’est vraiment un héritage bouleversant. Sur le mien; des images associées au cirque.

I love them. I have a few – new and vintage – Hèrmes, but I have two faves: One is a vintage one I found on eBay, and the theme is « Printemps à Thera »… featuring the Minoan frescoes found on Santorini. Being Greek and and artist, this one speaks to me on an emotional level which no other piece of clothing does! The other is a new one picked out by my 11 year old son for Mother’s Day, in gorgeous shades of apple green, turquoise, pale blue, and forest green… colours I would never pick for myself, but that I love. :-)

I don’t have many, so difficult for me to wear it properly! My favorite is the one I gave to my mother many years ago: Gucci Flora.
Like many other of your followers, I still remember the day I bought it: it was in the 80’s and Gucci was not the brand it is now. They showed me so many colors I couldn’t choose.
My mother is no more here with me, her Gucci Flora is so precious to me, now.
I love scarfs. My grandma also collected scarves, and she gave me one of her most exquisite Hermés scarves. But whenever I wear it I feel a little old… I would love to know cool and modern ways to wear scarves (of all sizes, because mine is the medium one). Do something like that Garance!!

J’ai 4 carrés Hermès. C’est de très beaux cadeaux que m’avait fait ma tante il y a très longtemps. Je ne les ai jamais utilisés car ce n’est pas du tout mon style, et je les garde au fond d’un tiroir depuis plus de 15/20 ans.
Ce qui serait bien c’est que quelqu’un qui les apprécie mieux que moi puisse en profiter…

J’ai plusieurs carrés Hermès, j’en ai acheté certains, mon mari m’en a offert et sa grand-maman m’en a donné plusieurs peu de temps avant son décès. Elle savait que je n’aime pas les bijoux mais que je suis folle des foulards.
Je les porte surtout autour du cou, pour me protéger du froid. En général, c’est la pièce maîtresse de ma tenue, celle qui est mise en valeur.
Et en Suisse, nous avons une fabrique de tissus de soie qui livre les plus grands couturiers et qui vend aussi des foulards en soie. Des carrés de 90/90, des formats écharpes, mais aussi des carrés 140/140 cm. Pas donnés, mais j’ai un 140/140 depuis bientôt 20 ans qui est toujours aussi beau. Ils livrent à l’étranger. Et rien que pour vous faire envie, je vais vous mettre l’url. Allez voir, c’est si beau:

Le carré Hermès, et Hermès en général, est selon moi de chicissime absolu. C’est beau, c’est racé et SURTOUT ce n’est pas m’as-tu vu.
Lovely photo ! There must be an Hermes vibe in the air! I bought myself one a few weeks ago (#3 in collection…there was a justification but I can’t recall what it was?) and opened an Instagram account a week ago with my first picture being the scarf… @becreed_ This seems to be the best way for me to wear it. The line of inheritance is a little different from the French tradition as my Mum never owned one and I have two boys… Although I have 5 nieces so I think I will have to acquire another 2 scarves in time ;)
Les foulards Hermès, tout un symbole…
Ma mère en a un au cou quasiment chaque jour et depuis des années, mon père lui en offre un par an, à Noël. Elle en a environ une vingtaine, de toutes les couleurs, tous plus beaux les uns que les autres.
Pour mes 18 ans mon oncle m’en a offert un (oui chez nous le carré Hermès est une histoire de famille !). C’est une sorte de symbole : je devenais grande, donc je pouvais avoir mon carré Hermès moi aussi. Coïncidence, mon père a ensuite offert le même à ma mère à Noël un mois après, dans une autre couleur !
Le seul problème c’est que, même si je porte un foulard ou une écharpe tous les jours, je porte très rarement mon carré. C’est en partie un problème de couleur, mais je me demande si inconsciemment, ce n’est pas parce que j’associe le carré Hermès à ma mère et à une sophistication dont, à mon âge, je me sens très, très loin.

Yes, I do. From really cheap finds (cotton) for summer to luxurious silks by Salvatore Ferragamo or Hermes. My wardrobe is pretty uneventful colourwise – white, black, grey, navy. So a splash of colour provided by a scarf makes my day brighter. And they are great for holding my unruly hair at a beach!
